A society’s culture can be determined by looking at where mental health is ranked on the moral spectrum. When it comes to mental health literacy, Keralites, who take great pleasure in being a literate society, still have a ways to go. According to current estimates, 13–14% of people in society suffer from diagnosable mental diseases. More than twice as many people require psychological assistance for non-diagnosable or subclinical mental health issues.
Despite the prevalence of mental illnesses and psychological issues, there is still a significant negative attitude in society toward mental health issues and those who suffer from psychological issues. A significant proportion of the population—roughly 70%—does not seek therapy for mental health issues, and even fewer seek out professional assistance.
Therefore, it is critical to dispel myths and avoid giving incorrect answers to mental health concerns, as well as to raise knowledge of psychological disorders and issues. This page attempts to raise awareness of mental health issues in our community, dispel myths about adult psychological issues, foster an accepting attitude toward obtaining psychological assistance, and offer guidance on selecting the best type of support.
